PHILOSOPHY
An education in Interior Design prepared me to decorate homes by bringing
all new furnishings into a room and imposing a style that wasn't always compatible with the client's needs
.
I basically earned
my living selling
furniture, window treatments, art and accessories.
Over the years I began to
look more
closely at homes' existing
decors and to ask the clients about the pieces they already owned.
I began to charge for my service and expertize instead of
constantly
trying to sell
merchandise
.
I found this method to be
more satisfying both to the client
and to myself. I felt good about reusing the pieces they loved, and at the
same time, being kind to the earth.
My new outlook eventually led me to New York City and
Lauri Ward,
celebrity author and pioneer of "use what you have" and one-day decorating.
Under Lauri's tutelage I earned my credentials as an
Interior Refiner®. I am now an active member of the
Interior Redecorators Network®,
a group of professionals that is constantly updating our education with continuing course work,
keeping up with current trends and exchanging valuable information. Our clients reap the benefits of our ever-expanding knowledge.
Working with people who are downsizing and moving into smaller spaces is especially rewarding.
We select pieces that will work well
in the new homes and than arrange for the dispersal
of the things that won't work. The homes are staged with the pieces that will eventually be moved and then, after the sale, those familiar things play a new
role in the new home.
